Helping Hands
‘Helping Hands’ are short-term voluntary programs, offering
participants a unique, hands-on intercultural experience. With its
multi-ethnic and multi-religious community consisting of Buddhists,
Hindus, Muslims and Christians, Nawalapitiya is an ideal setting for
the Helping Hands programs.
Helping Hands teams assist in enhancing the mission of Cherith to serve those in need. Activities may include sport camps, building homes for the poor, teaching English, or improving Cherith’s facilities.
Check out the upcoming Helping Hands team in June 2011.
In July 2007, a Helping Hands team built a beautiful playground with a colorful play tower for the ‘House of Hope’ children’s home. The team consisted of participants from the USA, Netherlands, Trinidad and Sri Lanka. Another intercultural team assisted in building Cherith’s Educational Center in October 2008.
In addition, Helping Hands teams
conducted the first-ever basketball training camps
for kids
in this area at the Cherith’s sports ground. More than two hundred kids have received training in the basics of basketball.
